Art. 1 [Menschenwürde, Grundrechtsbindung der staatlichen Gewalt]
(1) Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar. Sie zu achten und zu schützen ist Verpflichtung aller staatlichen Gewalt.
(2) Das Deutsche Volk bekennt sich darum zu unverletzlichen und unveräußerlichen Menschenrechten als Grundlage jeder menschlichen Gemeinschaft, des Friedens und der Gerechtigkeit in der Welt.
(3) Die nachfolgenden Grundrechte binden Gesetzgebung, vollziehende Gewalt und Rechtsprechung als unmittelbar geltendes Recht.
第1条 [人間の尊厳、基本権による国家権力の拘束]
(1) 人間の尊厳は不可侵である。これを尊重し、および保護することは、すべての国家権力の義務である。
(2) ドイツ国民は、それゆえに、侵すことのできない、かつ譲り渡すことのできない人権を、世界のあらゆる人間社会、平和および正義の基礎として認める。
(3) 以下の基本権は、直接に妥当する法として、立法、執行権および司法を拘束する。
Article 1 [Protection of human dignity]
(1) The dignity of man is inviolable. To respect and protect it shall be the duty of all public authority.
(2) The German people therefore uphold human rights as inviolable and inalienable and as the basis of every community, of peace and justice in the world.
(3) The following basic rights shall bind the legislature, the executive and the judiciary as directly enforceable law.
